For those who are experienced with Halloween, you know there is nothing worse than an awesome Halloween costume that provides no warmth while trick-or-treating. This results in mismatched sweatpants under princess dresses.
The point of Halloween costumes to look scary, funny or downright ridiculous, but that doesn’t have to be sacrificed for staying warm when you and your kids are out trick-or-treating. We’ve assembled a short list of costume ideas that will help you look great while also keeping the late October cold from chilling you too much.
- Marty McFly from “Back to the Future”- Michael J. Fox sported jeans, white sneakers, a button-up plaid shirt and zip-up vest for most of the movie. Throw on some thermal underwear and white Under Armor and you’re ready to fly through time with Doc.
- Lumberjack-this costume was made for cold weather; boots, jeans, flannel shirt, beard (real or fake) and wool knit hat. You can also add your own “haunted” touches to this costume for an undead lumberjack.
- Zombie- thanks to shows like AMC’s The Walking Dead, zombies are cool again. They’re also dressed in whatever they want since they went from warm-blooded human to cold-blooded flesh seeker. Grab some older clothes that are warm, rough them up with some dirt, grease and fake blood and start looking for your prey.
- Teen Wolf- you probably already have the clothes. Just find a mask and rough up your clothes a little and you’re set.
- Any athlete- since most sports are played at some point of cold weather during the year, this is an easy solution for those who are cash-strapped or need a quick costume for trick-or-treating.
- A superhero- superheroes of both genders have been hitting the big screen hard, and there are tons of costumes available that can fit thermal underwear or Under Armor under them.
- Harry Potter character- the characters in all of the Harry Potter movies are often dressed warmly since Hogwarts seems to always be cold. Find some circular glasses, give yourself a lightning scar and get an official Gryffindor scarf to become Harry. You can also do the same but substitute some books for the glasses and scar to channel your inner Hermione.
- Witch- when in doubt, go with the basics. Your witch costume could have as much warmth built into it as you want, just as long as it’s black!
Use one of the ideas above or come up with your own warm Halloween costume idea to ensure you can enjoy Halloween this year instead of trying to make it back to the house as quickly as possible.
